FRIENDS of the SEMINARY

The Major Seminary has always been at the heart of the Maltese people and one can imagine that the needs of the Seminary are great.

Over the years many people have come to get closer to the Seminary either as volunteers or benefactors. Three times a year the Seminary publishes a newsletter “Is-Seminarju” which keeps all these people in touch with events and news.

However, in these last months, the idea to organize these people has helped us to develop the group into what we are calling the “Friends of the Seminary”. The idea is to have a core group that organizes and forms these volunteers and benefactors for the spiritual and temporal needs of the Major Seminary.

The Group's Goals, Objectives and Instruments

Goal:
The goal of the group is to sustain the Major Seminary in its delicate and holy mission through prayer, work and life.

Inspiration:
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide.”
(Jn. 15:16)

Objectives:

  1. To support the Seminary with prayers and life;
  2. Help to recruit volunteers who help and serve the Seminary;
  3. To create an awareness in the diocese and parishes about the Seminary;
  4. Publicity of all the activity that goes on in the Seminary for the benefit of fostering vocations and the formation of seminarians;
  5. To create activities and events that help the Seminary even on the financial level.

Instruments:

  1. The group is animated by the Major Seminary Staff;
  2. The core group meets regularly for prayer and organization;
  3. A seminarian would also be assigned to the group as a link between the group and the seminarians;
  4. A personal commitment of the members to keep the Seminary in their daily prayers and intentions;
  5. The members will be formed in the vision of the Archbishop’s Seminary;
  6. Contact with parishes so the latter could invest  more in the Seminary;
  7. The members will also commit themselves to share ideas and work for the financial benefit of the Seminary.

Activity:

  1. Publicity for the monthly (first Thursday of the month) Mass and Adoration that is organized in the Seminary;
  2. Publicity for the special Adoration on the vigil of the Priestly Ordination in June / July;
  3. Publicity in the parishes regarding the activity of the Major Seminary. This could also be in conjunction with the “Missions and Vocations” working group (the seminarian acting as a link with the “Friends” group could also be a member of this working group);
  4. Support and up-dating the Seminary Website;
  5. A study of the resources that the Seminary has in its venue and how these could be best utilized for the benefit of the Seminary;
  6. Creating and organizing fund-raising activities;
  7. An outreach by post (through the Seminary newsletter) appealing to the Maltese families. The idea is that the Christian Community invests more in the Seminary formation through prayer, volunteering and donations.
